To
Whom It May Concern:
It
appears to me that the closing of Sacred Heart Parish is not a good
decision. I am an organist and can best addresss
my comments concerning the music provided by the parish. The archdiocese
did an excellent job of trying to keep communites
together and find churches with enough pew space and parking space to
accommodate the closed parishes. However, the musical styles Sacred Heart
and St. Brigid's in Lexington are very different. It is
not a given that the two parished can be merged
easily. In fact, in the case of Sacred Heart I anticipate most of the parshioners not going to St. Brigid's.
I have played at both and personnally prefer the more
traditional liturgy of St. Brigid's but most of
the people in the parish do not share my preferences. To illustrate my
point the current music director is a predominately a pianist as is the case
with other parishes. It would seem that some other means of mechanism for
accomodating the lack of priests would be in
order.
